Slavery Moving To The West

Today I will be writing from the point of view of a slave around 1849. I will be talking about why I do not think slavery should expand to the west.

                    Dear President Harrison,

I believe that slavery should be abolished. No one deserves to get treated like us slaves do. We are forced to work hard hours and if we do not we are severely punished. My name is James and I have been a slave for as long as I can remember. I have never had any rights. You may think I am only against slavery since I am a slave, but I want this mostly for the wellbeing of others. I do not think that slavery should move out west. There is no need for slavery out there and slavery is a terrible thing. Having more slaves will cause more problems and expanding to the west will cause there to be many more slaves. I think it is in the interest of you and us slaves that slavery is not expanded out to the west. That is all I ask of you.
