Why we should decentralize the internet?

In the nineteen-seventies, the Internet was a small, decentralized collective of computers. Nowadays, most of the data and communication flows through a small set of corporations, which is controlled and can be altered by these corporations. For example, Google now owns 25% of all Northern American traffic, and when their servers went down, worldwide internet traffic dropped 40%.
