Martian Creation Myth

Colonized

I open my eyes and look around. I'm feeling weary, as I am still waking up from my long rest. Noises of robots driving around ring in my ears.  The sunlight shines through my window and I peek outside. My eyes scan around the vast miles of endless rocket and small shelters. Workers are already awake, and I can see them moving rocks around and fixing the robots. After five hundred years of living on Mars, we have developed a very strong civilization in which is partially run by robots and rovers. Far into the distance, I see the tip of the wall. It rises fifteen feet into the air and stretches across the horizon. The sunlight reflects off the bright quartz onto SHELTER-42 and I see children's faces looking out the window.
When we first arrived, figuring out how to grow crops in an atmosphere like this was our first priority. We had enough food to last us a month when we first arrived. Luckily we figured out a way to get food to grow within that month, but it wasn’t very efficient. Five hundred years later we have fully advanced this process and it is fully automated. Our water is obtained from below the surface of Mars by a special machine that sucks it up. Now most of our attention is spent towards exploring and looking for new life.
Everyone is sorted into different shelters which each have a specific number that is used to identify them. Trips to Earth are not allowed as returning will cause you to die instantly. Livestock can be transported to Mars from Earth using shuttles that are completely controlled by machines. Although we have declared independence from Mars, we still have connections with people on Mars who send these shuttles to us. There isn’t any beef between Mars Earth, but as our population grew bigger and became self sustaining, we decided there was no need to be connected with Earth, so we declared independence. We still work with Earth on certain projects involving finding new planets and figuring out faster ways to travel throughout the planets. At this point, we have developed a system which makes it possible to travel to Mars from Earth in less than two weeks. This is a huge improvement from the many months it took to travel in between the planets five hundred years ago. The only issue is that we can’t return to Earth, but I’m sure we will figure that out in the future.

We aren’t the only colony here on Mars; there are many more. After about one hundred years of living on Mars, some people had other ideas of what was best for us than others. Because of this, we decided to separate into different civilizations. In the history of Mars, there have been a few sabotaging attempts on some colonies, but none on mine. We have peace treaties with a lot of the colonies, and as of right now, everything is peaceful. Our colony is the most advanced out of all the twenty six on mars, making us very powerful.
